Our HistoryNeed for Affordable Housing Brought Sunshine of Warren to Life
Sunshine of Warren was founded in 1993 as a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide quality housing for low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Through a partnership with the Warren City Community Development Department - which utilizes funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) - and second-level relationships with local lending institutions, Sunshine of Warren quickly emerged as one of our area's leading programs for single-family housing.
Warren Homes Program Increased Housing Opportunities
In 1996, the first of what would eventually be four additional housing programs was created. Warren First Homes, as it was called, was funded when Low Income Housing Tax Credits became available for single-family houses. Sunshine of Warren served as the nonprofit sponsor and managing partner. Subsequent phases - Warren Homes II (1997), Warren Homes III (1998), and Warren Neighborhood Rehabilitation (2003) - added even more housing. Nearly 150 houses have been constructed or renovated since the inception of these programs. Like Sunshine of Warren, the goal was to offer quality, single-family homes below market rates for individuals and families.
Today, Sunshine of Warren serves as the parent entity and sole owner of all the housing programs. Combined, they now own and operate approximately 200 homes in Warren and the surrounding communities.
I am very proud to be a part of an organization that helps families find affordable housing. Many of our clients were out of options when they came to us. It feels good knowing we were there for them. |
